Intervals…

I’ve been building a base of mileage since May and my short-term training plan elective is the Invesco QQQ half marathon on Thanksgiving. A few weeks ago I ostensibly started an 18 week marathon training program to prepare for the half. The first few weeks were just slow miles. I just kept doing what I was doing because my mileage was greater than the plan called for.

It started getting serious this weekend with a 12x400 day at 1:50-2:00 for each 400. I tried that 3 of the last four days. It was a struggle to do 12 repeats partly because I was running them at 1:35 to 1:45. I managed 8 repeats today after 10 miles at 9:30 pace yesterday.

I’m not hitting the paces yet but I will in the next couple of weeks. It gives me confidence I’ll be able to complete the half marathon in under 2 hours.

In other news, I wasn’t selected in the first drawing for the Tokyo marathon. I have a second chance in a couple of weeks. If I don’t get a bib for Tokyo in spring 2025, I still have a bib for Paris which is fine with me.
