Still waiting

I went from not running at April 30th to 38 miles the last week of June. Not surprisingly, I have shin pain. I took a few days off before the Peachtree and then pushed hard for that race. That certainly didn't help, though I was pleased with the time. I took a week off before trying a two-mile run, which went fine. The 4.5-mile run the next day brought the shin pain back. So I'm taking two weeks off this time.

I've also booked an appointment with a physical therapist the local Fleet Feet store recommended. He's a runner and a Doctor of PT. I didn't know there was such a thing. I'm not sure I really need a PT for basic shin splints. But I am certain that I'll need a PT on this quest. So establishing a relationship now will be a good move.

I bought some shoes.

First was a design-your-own pair of Nike Peg 41s in green and orange.

Second, I received a pair of Eliot Runners from Tracksmith. These are classic-looking shoes with Pebex foam that I've only done two runs in them. I like them as daily trainers. Tracksmith did well with these for a first shoe offering.

Third, I wanted a more modern shoe than the Peg 41 and the Tracksmith shoe. Not that the Peg 41 and Eliot are out of date. They're just aspiring for basic without a lot of the latest bells and whistles. So I got a pair of the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4s. I haven't run in them yet but they feel great and everyone rates them highly. I think they may end up being my favorites.

I'm eager to start running again, but I know the best way to proceed with my plans is to rest now and resolve this nagging injury..
